2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the requirement for a distinct direction.
Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to mind and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. After several months of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all excited to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
The President
Experience of the New Head
The appointee presently serves in the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Concept
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary states. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, risk it all, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."
The game does not have an announced debut schedule or consoles, but players can look forward to further news as production continues.
